shift in career from BPO to IT (.Net)

Hi

I have been working in a BPO for the last 8 years and have 10 yrs of total experience. First 3 yrs I enjoyed the Job, later I felt that I am not made for the BPO/Call centre, but due to some reasons I could not move out of Job and place.

There is no growth in the current job, also it became monotonus.

Now I want to move to IT(.net) filed. I got an offer and my pack is 70% less than the current pack. What do I do. What are the career prospects in .net. I want to give my family and kids good life and good education.

I am married and with 2 kids.

Hi,

At the risk of being honest, I need to mention here that your previous experience in BPO will not be of much value in the IT space unless you have had a chance to do some technical work in the IT department of a BPO. You will effectively be starting from scratch which explains the salary reduction that you have mentioned. This does not mean that a shift to IT is entirely impossible, all I am trying to say is that you will need to have realistic expectations for the initial 3 to 5 years which is the minimum period for developing skills in the programming space.

Alternatively, I would also suggest that you also have a long, hard look within the BPO space itself for any meaningful roles. To my knowledge, good rules do exist in BPOs but you need to hunt for them.

Its really nice decision ad right time to move from from BPO to IT Career. There are few options are there to move into IT Job.

-> Microsoft System Administrator ( active directory admin, exchange admin )
-> Software developer ( java, c#, .net)
-> Software testing engineer ( white box testing, manual testing, automation etc)

As you might aware currently India is in "Remote IT Infrastructure Management" wave. Means we have good global demand for IT support administrators. Vast openings are there with real handsome pay.

Freshers/BPO Guys with <1 year Experience - Atleast 15-20 K / month
KPO/BPO Guys more Experience - 20 K - 50K / month as per their experience

Basically you need to do is..

-> Take Microsoft Exchange 2010 Admin Course ( ITBigBang provides job oriented course www.itbigbang.com/jobcourse )
-> Learn Live aspects and concepts
-> Pursue Microsoft Exchange Certificate from Microsoft ( Around 4K)
-> Groom your resume with Exchange Admin Skills and Certificates

-> Pursue your IT Career
