It is a decision making time for you. It comes up for everybody in their life at each day. You may be doing this even at your work when you need to decide on which option to take in programming. You will have to weigh your options and then make a decisions based on your priorities. Your priorities will have to be decided by "YOU".
However, things to consider:
- People join back their old company, there is no problem in that. But they make a concious decision of working same environment and same problems, and freely embrace those problems. Because they may have realized that same problems are there in other comapnies also.
- If the problem which made you leave still exists and it is then even if you go you will be frustrated and then again not enjoying work and will start thinking of leaving again.
- If the change(in money and role) is not big, it is not worth. Same change can be brought in by any other company. At least, there you putting your expectations and your expectation being met. There is growth foreseen.
Based on these and other factor you can decide.... But whatever you decide back it with your convictions and should not to regret your decision.

Whatever Kapil has shared above is priceless, his is the typical "been there, done that" kind of experience.
When an ex-employer approaches you again, some things are obvious:
- He knows what is your need - in terms of the kind of work you like to do, amount of money you would like to earn,etc
- He knows what you don't like - typically the reasons which made you leave the organization in the first place.
Armed with this information, if he is intelligent / strategic enough he will "make you an offer you can't refuse." Emotion usually dominates reason and can lead to uninformed decisions. Step back and scrutinize the offer once again:
- Are the "heads who matter" still in the company - meaning are the main decision making people at the project and company top management level still there. If yes, the old thinking which caused the original problems will continue to exist.
I have browsed through all your postings, particularly your article on becoming an expert in one's chosen field. You have what it takes to succeed - good technical skills, excellent attitude and teachability (accepting one's ignorance is the 1st step to learning ). Ideally you should target organizations wherein you will be given tougher assignments, tougher problems to solve which will force you to learn more and get the best out of you. Tougher problem --> More pain --> More frustration --> More learning --> More gain --> More growth --> Expert in the field. The cycle should continue with every new organization you join. Money is a by-product and it usually will grow alongside, without conscious focus. Your skill levels itself will place you amond a few elite, in high-demand group of people.
