To be honest with you , i have never found anything better than Silverlight when it comes to web. The ease of development and power of the technology makes me to be joyous person when someone talks about other web related technologies. VB6 was not the best, but the ease it provide when building UI was good.

It hurts me to say that the time has come to defend Silverlight against non-Microsoft developers out there. The reason is not because i found something in Silverlight, but because Microsoft made it clear that it is not part of their road map. If Silverlight can be used in a Tablet , why would i still continue building applications in Silverlight. The world is going the Tablet way , the Mobile way.

But i must say, Silverlight is the most beautiful thing i have ever worked with and to make things worse , the companies like Telerik , who made that experience more beautiful  , i say you did a Good Job. The World is going the HTML 5 route , though HTML 5 is not ready yet. It might take many years to bring it to Silverlight level. but as long as it is in infant days , Silverlight still rules. I hope Microsoft can see the beauty of Silverlight. Not all Silverlight developer want to stream the videos , but some of us want to develop enterprise applications that are stable , that are fast with better user experience and Silverlight provide that , i don't know any Microsoft technology that provides that.

I would like us to engage in a discussion, as you know points are gained in this Discussion for participation.

What do you think about what i just pointed out.

I completely agree with you, I was shocked when I heard that Silverlight has not very good future. However it had given me this sense last year itself when MS was emphasizing more on HTML 5 and there was a rumor that Silveright is going to die soon but somehow few known people came in between to calm down this rumor.

I too like Silverlight however my recent interaction with HTML5 made me feel like there is a better way to do stuffs without depending on a plug-in in the browser and writing server side code.

HTML 5 is really going to rule the world and I have started getting that sense. However those who know HTML 4 or previous versions, it is not that easy to learn HTML 5 and using its standards. You may feel that there are many unnecessary (for normal developer) tags that you will really feel confusing to use and where to use them however those tags have their place in the professional contents.

Thanks !

Around 1.5 years ago, I was analyzing few technologies for RIA. I worked on a POC in Flex( A product of Adobe) and Silverlight. But personally I felt Flex produces better Interfaces.

Now I would say HTML5 is future. And most of the known applications like Google , facebook etc started using it. As HTML5 is getting widely accepted. I think HTML5 would not take so long to be in stable position.

I also agree with Sheo's point, HTML5 would be more generic solution for RIA application as other technologies like Silverlight and Flex require plugin.

As the time will pass, I hope we will fill find HTML5 will become mature.

Thanks!!

Cheers,
