The image is a control that is used to host an image and it has no events like click event, so you must not expect it to react to click events and the ImageButton is the same as normal ASP.net button, the different here is that it can display an icon or image instead of a just only text

In image we don't have button click event where as in the case of image button we have

click event present.

Image don't have any click event where as imagebutton have and you can do some functionality onclick of imagebutton.
