Master page is used to define the parent layout of an application or website.

Layout is the part of the Master page, we define the layout in the Master page, apart from that we also keep content that is applicable to all the pages of the application or website in the master page (like header, footer, menu etc.).

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Hello,

Page layout defines the structure of the page. Also defines rendering of content types.

Master page contains the overall appearance and branding of the site. Master page contains elements like stylesheets, common search webpart, navigation components, header and footer etc.

Pagelayout and master page are merged runtime to generate the complete page.

Hope you will get some idea from this.

Thanks and Best Regards
Prasham
