what is the difference between master page and usercontrol in asp.net ?

Both are doing the same thing...then what is the difference?

Both Master Page and User control cannot be a startup page and neither can you redirect to them. The Master page is like the Host of the Pages and a user-control is like a hosting page for other normal control that will be treated as a single control on a normal aspx page.
