status of email sent

hi,

i would like to send mail through asp.net and after sending the mail, i would like to know the status whether it is sent or bounced back
can i also know what was the reason for failure

the mail may not be delivered because of the following reasons

fake mailid
fake domain
mailbox full
network problem


plaese help me out if any solution

By default asp.net just connects to the pop3 mail server you specify and sends the email out.

The errors and that are handled on the mail server.

I dont know of any way to get this information using the built in SmtpClient / MailMessage classes.

You should look into purchasing an asp.net email component if you have advanced requirements.

Also I didnt mention before I dont think you can rely on mailbox full messages as they dont always report this information.

If it is a fake domain then you could check this using code before hand.

Mail servers on the whole are configured to accept all email and then discard it if the email is bogus. If it returned a valid/invalid status then spammers could try all the different combinations until the mail server confirmed it was a real mailbox.
