I am not sure but up to my knowledge stored procedure has nothing to do with network traffic. Either you execute the SQL statement or Stored procedure from the code both gets executed in the sql server database and the actual data is returned to the application. That data will be same for the SQL either you execute using direct SQL or Stored procedure.

Stored Procedure makes your application runs faster as the code written in the stored procedure is pre-complied and SQL server doesn't have to generate its plan at run time.

Read this thread for more details http://www.dotnetfunda.com/forums/thread2838-what-is-the-use-of-storedprocedure.aspx.

Hi,

1)Stored Procedure is the Predefined collection of SQL Statements, its Precompiled Execution it will reduce the Client/Server Network Traffic..
2) Easy to Error Handling in Stored Procedure
3) Better Performance.
4) More number of SQL Statements can execute single Stored Procedure.
5) Maintain the Security.

Hope This will help
