can we have email preferences?

Hey,

I have noticed that when I post a reply to a thread I get an email straight away telling me that there has been a reply but it is my reply.

If I come back to my email later in the day to review the posts it is hard to tell if anything new has been posted or if they are just notifications of myself.

Is there a way that you can check and only send me an email when somebody else replies to a thread that I am in?

in fact thinking about it I would also like a feature to subscribe to receive an email for all new threads that are started (that aren't started by myself of course) so that I know when there is a new question to answer.

This would work at the moment as there are around 10 new questions a day but in the future it would probably need revisiting if it was generating hundreds of emails a day! :P

Dear Rtpharry,

As Vuyiswa said, We shall look into this matter very soon. As far as subscription to all new thread are concerned, you may go for subscription at http://www.dotnetfunda.com/subscribe.aspx but that ofcourse sends email at the end of the day.

We shall try to add this feature in future.

Yes, you will not get an email notification of your reply.

Just to confirm, you would not have got email notification of your last reply

Haha unless somebody posted a reply and then deleted it I did actually get an email for this thread for "21 September 2009 13:15:03".

The forum doesnt show you the time that it was posted but maybe an admin can confirm this was my comment and I still got an email for it?

The feature seems to be working in general so I guess this might be just a little bug?

Just in the same way as I described in the first post - when I reply to a thread I get an email saying a reply has been posted. The problem is that it is my reply so its just confusing to track when new posts have been updated.

When I initially reported it the code was changed and the emails stopped but then the next day it went back to the original problem.

I was just checking to make sure that this was still on the bug list and that it hadn't been marked as resolved....

Thanks, it would be more helpful if the forums listed the time posted as well as the date posted so that I can tie the emails up to the posts. Is this information recorded?

Thanks that helped.

I have the following emails in my inbox which are notifications for this thread:

10:22
13:33
17:17 - I have two emails for this single reply.

Because I am in a different time zone they dont match up on the hour but it seems:

10:22 = 3:22 = Sheo = Good email
13:33 = 6:33 = rtpHarry = Shouldn't have got
17:17 & 19 secs + 17:17 + 20 secs = 10:17 = Sheo = Correct but shouldn't have got it twice.

I can forward the emails if you like but they dont seem to contain any more info.

Dear RtpHarry,

Thanks for detailed explanations. From the explanations it is clear that you have got duplicate emails that should not have.

We have now added the timestamp of reply in the notification email so that it would be easy to track the reply and notification email.

Kindly let us know if you again receive such duplicate emails again and notification for your own reply.

We apologies for this error.

Thank you.

This is strange, I have got double posts for all three of the replies you sent but only a single reply email from mine.

It hasn't happened with other threads overnight, just this one.

02:24 x2 This thread
02:26 x2 This thread
03:03 x2 This thread
03:11 x2 This thread

Then a couple of normal replies (just single ones, with new features such as timestamp, message text) this morning for:

04:45 - How Can i read text from image using C#
05:58 - Tuning Methodologies in SQL Server ?

I will keep an eye on it and give you an update later on today...
