I need the clarifications regarding the update panel

1.When to use the update panel?

2.Is update panel applicable only for gridview control it is not useful for any other controls?

3.If I use update panel will I get any problems with the button in the gridview?

Thanks and Regards

Hi,

Update panel is used to refresh any small portion of the page without submitting whole page to the server. This is working with ajax technology. You can use gridview and other controls in update panel. If you use buttons in update panel , you may be need to set some properties of the update panel. Refer this link http://www.asp.net/web-forms/tutorials/aspnet-ajax/understanding-asp-net-ajax-updatepanel-triggers for more information about this.

1. Update Panel is work Specific portion of the page. so you can refresh selected parts of the page instead of refreshing the whole page with a postback. Due to this can reduce the amount of data that is transferred between client and server.

2. No. It will work with repeater, listview, datagrid etc.. Basic is when user wants to perform asynchronous action with any server control

3. No. Inside the Triggers tag u can specify the event like 'Click'
