In visual studio IDE, click on Toolbox (left side) of the editor. You can see two following section

1) standard : It contain server side control.

2) Html : client side control . It not require processing at server side.

Hi

1. Html controls:

- It does not contain runat=server
- you can not use server side event with this controls
- It does not send page to the server

2.Standard Controls(Server side)
-It conteins runat=server
-it can use all server side event
It always send page to the server
