Services are logical grouping of components to achieve business functionality. Components are implementation approaches to make a service. The components can be in JAVA, C#, C++ but the services will be exposed in a general format like Web Services.

Services are generalization of messages, which means the functionality implemented in the services are used on cross-platform basis. A component is limited to a particular programming boundary. The classes or components of one language can only be used within the language. Cross platform usuability is not possible in the case of components.
