Calender control problems

I'm using a web calender control for an input (users click the date and when they click the submit button this date gets carried off to the sql database). Naturally it would be stupid to let users input dates before todays date, so was wondering if it was possible to lock those days off or at least provide a validator to stop the app from running should they do it.
Also it would be really handy if I could find out a way of removing the time 00:00:00 from time date data. I know this would probably need to be stored in the sql like that because of smalldatetime however if I was to retrieve the data from the database in another part of the app to attach in emails is there a way of just displaying the date?

Thanks for your help on either of these queries.
