what is global.asax in asp.net?

hello all .net experts..

can any one tell me what is global.asax and how can one get it in an application?
is it available in all versions of VS or what..?

how to add global.asax to a project & can any one tell me its purpose & uses..
any links will be appreciated..

global.asax is contains configuration settings for whole application ..we dont want to create it, while installing vishual studio its automatically created

Global.asax , is used to serve application-level and session-level events. Global.asax is compiled to its own assembly - if you publish the web project from Visual Studio, you can find App_global.asax.dll in the bin directory
