how to track editing & non-editing rows

I have edit-Update/cancel inside gridivew..

Chance 1: By editing I can update rows
Chance 2:By not editing I can simply update rows..

If Chance 1,need to update into datatabase table..
if chance 2,shd not update into database table..
how i can track these while updating?
