Why big endiann why not little endiann???

Some where i read that in floating point representation we use big endiann but in case of inter value representation we prefer to use little endiann...but why...???
anybody tell me where to use big endiann and where to use little endiann...what disadvantage is found under big endiann so that the new theory of little endiann come with new concepts...???
please help me guys i realy need it.
