regarding dataset memory

where is memory created in for a dataset?

On the server where your application is running.

Remember, DataSet is always bulkier than DataTable so if you have only one result-set to be returned from your DataSet you should use fill overload where it accepts DataTable not the DataSet.

A Dataset is a collection of tables. So allways be sure in picking up Dataset unless it is extremely required.
