Hi,

I have a backup file with extension .bak.
I want to check, the existing backup file belongs to 2005 or 2008. i need to restore at client place.
Is there any query to find out the version of the backup file.

Thanks in Advance!!!

Hi Raju

Yes. You can find out the information from the Valid Backup File (.Bak)

Use Master

Go
Restore headeronly from disk='<Backup file Path.Bak>'
Go
Check the columns from the above statement SoftwareVersionMajor , SoftwareVersionMinor , SoftwareVersionBuild

I hope it would help :)

Cheers
