Hi all,
Do i have an option to create a fully customized site using SharePoint Designer? And, why do we use SharePoint Designer in common? To my knowledge i read that a SharePoint Designer can be used only to customize the CSS and PageLayouts... Do we require Visual Studio 2010 solutions for Site Branding in SharePoint 2010?

Yes. In sharepoint designer you can change the master page layout. also you can change the view grid layout. We can also apply our customised styles.

Thanks Shailesh... I think for more complicated operations we must go for Visual Studio 2010 Solutions... Isn't it?

Hi,
I am newbie in this forum site.
SharePoint designer will create all the basic files and folders for a basic ASP.NET site, and give you the directory. SharePoint designer works with your SharePoint site to provide virtually unlimited design options.

one suggestion,

please don't create new master page.
Take a backup of original/existing master page and do customization.
