Reading data from a SQL database

I have been looking into reading a field that I want to be displayed as part of the page as it is generated but I get yourEncodedHtmlFromDatabase has not been declared.
From default.aspx

The idea is to have a select statement to get the field and load it into that variable and then have it displayed as part of the page.
