Validation and button control problems

I have a button call btnCatalog on my master page and another button on a 2nd page call btnSubmit. I have validaters fields on the 2nd page and when I hit the button from the master page, it wants you to validate the fields which I dont want to do that. It should only validate the fields if I hit the btnSubmit button. Could someone tell me what I need to do to fix this? Thanks!
