The app in question is a .Net 4 WPF app using Entity Framework 5 (although this is probably irrelevant as I suspect it's a SQL issue).
The first time I run the app on a given day, it fails with the error "the underlying provider failed on open". Subsequent attemps will work fine. For info this is the db connection string:-
"data source=.\sqlexpress2012;initial catalog=NuQuant;integrated security=True;multipleactiveresultsets=True;App=EntityFramework"
The only thing that appears in Event Viewer is the following information message: "Server resumed execution after being idle 25177 seconds: user activity awakened the server."
I've checked that the database "Auto Close" option is set to false. Is there anything else I can do to alleviate the problem? I can try increasing the timeout but it's not really fixing the underlying problem, and customers aren't going to be happy having
to wait so long for the app to start ...
