I am working on a way to track users (non logged-in guests). I want to use session IDs for this purpose.  Does anyone know how to get the session ID BEFORE it is issued in a cookie?
Here is one of the problems I am having.... Suppose a user clears their browser cache and cookies then follows a link directly to a page that shows the number of guests online. The guest count online shows up as 0 because my existing code in page_load checks for the ASP.NET_SessionId cookie and gets its value and inserts it into a database. The database entries are then counted and returned as the number of guests online. When the user clicks refresh  the count is correctly display as 1. I am guessing that the cookie is not accessible until after the initial page loads for the first time.  If I could get the session id before its issued as a cookie, I could get around this problem.
Anyone know how to accomplish this?
