Is it possible that in some way make the website know if the server has been down? I'm making an auction site where it is very important that if the server goes down I have to pause the auction end dates, so when the server goes up again I can add back the time so that all auctions not have ended under the server shutdown. Is this possible?
I was thinking that maybe it is possible to have a script that writes the time to a db or file every second so if the server goes down it would stop writing. When it goes back online it would see that there was a big gap in the current time and the old and could then adjust the times for the auctions... but I don't know how or if this could be done.
Anyone have a good solution for this problem?
