Select/insert in db on page_load

 Hello,
I would like to do a quick check on my database on page load [select where blah] ... then an insert of a timestamp, and Userid into the table.
I would like to do this without a formview, or any other data bound controls.
Is there a way to do this with out using a datasource control?
