Choosing between in memory collections or database tables to store data

Hi,When designing systems, it is possible to arrange data in an in memory collection (array, Hashtable, etc), or in a database table?What factors influence this decision? Is it the data? I.E. it's just a simple set of names with no relations then it can go in a collection. What else?Thanks ...
