FindControl in GridView.EmptyTemplate

I have used the technique from http://fredrik.nsquared2.com/viewpost.aspx?PostID=155 to Insert new records using the footer.
When there is no records, I am using the EmptyTemplate but how do I use the FindControl for the EmplyTempale like I do for the FooterRow eg GridView1.FooterRow.FindControl("MyControl")
