Need to manipulate items in a listbox that was bound by an Object Data Source

I have a listbox that is being populated with data from a db via an Object Data Source control.  I need to be able to modify some of the list items in the listbox after the ODS has populated the listbox.  I have tried putting a breakpoint on just about every event on both the ODS and listbox (ie. ODS_Selected, ODS_Selecting, ODS_ObjectCreated, ListBox_DataBound, and many more) and none of them when debugging, show a count of items in the listbox yet, and therefore I can not access the items.

In fact the ListBox_Databound event never even hits the breakpoint, and this is where I read you could finally access the items within the control (they would be populated and present at this point).

Does anybody know what event or how I can access the items of this listbox by the time the page loads?
