how can this be achieved?

good day all, i have a create user control, that i want to login the newly created user to a portal. the initial design was that when the user finishes creating his/her account, he/she clicks on the continue button of the step two of the wizard steps in the create user control which takes him to the login page of the portal where he/she supplies the username and password just used in creating his account. but now, they want it in such a way that after the user clicks the continue button in the create user step he/she is automatically logged into the portal. also, there is a custom login processor page that i use to collect all the variables related to that user before redirecting him to the portal home after a successfull login. the problem now is taking the new user from the point he/she clicks continue in the second wizard step to the loggin procesor so i can collect the variables i need and continue. pls how can this be handled??? it is highly important i get this to work in this ...
