not getting data bound form control content

code below is the form control with the data binding
<asp:TextBox id="Name" maxlength="28" columns="28" runat="server" Text="<%# Add.Name %>" />
then in the post back I execute a databind() and the debugger actually goes to every control with data binding. but the variables do not get the value from the form
DataBind() xname = Add.Name the problem is that add.name is empty even though it has content on the form and when databind() executed it touched the control in the .aspx page so what needs to be done to get the controls to actually populate the variable from the data binding?
