How to pull parameters out of a url

Hello everyone,

I have a calendar and when I click on a date in the calendar I update my parameters. The calendar is on the masterpage and I am changing the parameters on another page. The problem I am having is when the parameters change the selected date on the calendar doesn't change. How can I pull the parameters from the URL (if that is the best method) to change the selected date?
