I have searched but haven't been able to find a definitive answer to a terminology question. Can anyone answer this, preferably by pointing me at a reference from Microsoft on this topic?

Assuming a .net 3.5 web application project containing an .aspx file referencing an .aspx.cs file using the codefile attribute of the page directive in the .aspx, is this .cs file called a code-behind, a code-beside, a codefile, or possibly more than one? Does the answer depend on whether or not there is a designer file?
My research seems to indicate that code-beside was the early name for this, but code-behind is more commonly used, and codefile is just the name of the attribute.
TIA,
