Opening a user file on a click of a button

Hi everyone,
 I like to be able to launch a user file like a jpg, power point file or a MS WORD document when the user click on a button. I retrieve the file location from the db record and I want to leave it up to the user's environment to open the file (ie. MS Word, Image Viewer...).
