How to access my controls within code behind

 Well i know how to access them, but i have a page with a few different buttons, and for each button event i have to do a findcontrol to access the controls..
Can i not do this once and call the controls within the button events as needed?
Example some of the button events have calculation code, since some of the buttons do similar things, id like to take this code and only have it once on the page. The code below is actually within 3 of my buttons.. so there is no reason to have that part 2 different times.. makes for a mess when i need to update that..
