Splitting a string. Converting back to drop down lists from database

Hi all, I have a small problem i hope u can help me out. I have two dropdownlists on my web page for date and month. I save them in a single column in my database. Here is the code for that:-

cmd.Parameters.Add("@dob", SqlDbType.NVarChar).Value = Convert.ToString(Dddate.SelectedItem) & "/" & Convert.ToString(Ddmonth.SelectedItem)

 

My problem is when i select the particular employee from gridview. I want to get the date and month to be highlited in respective ddl's. I dnt know how to split them.
