I have a site that allows my clients (not vistors) to upload images relating to a product on a dynamically generated page.

The advantages of storing the images in a database is that I have a lot of control over what additional information I store along with it. My concern is how efficient is it?

By this I mean when I need to retrieve the image, how demanding is it on the database if I for instance try to retrieve a 1MB file? Also, I'm not that experienced with SQL, so I'd like to know if I perform a query which doesn't involve the image field in the SELECT statement, does it still affect the retrieval time of the results?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Pete.
