help me on how to extract a date from a given date ???

Hello  People,
 I am developing web application  using Csharp  Microsoft .net 1.1.   
 How can I extract date from a date given. Forexample when you have 12-07-2008 as date and you want to display
12  as date. How can you do it. I am  using the csharp code below but it is not working. where I am going wrong?

  DateTime dt = new DateTime("01/01/2008");
  int Ddate = dt.Date;
  datelabel.Text=Ddate.ToString(); ...
