How to implement Cancel Button Functionality?

 Hi All,
I want to implement Cancel Button Functionality. In my Page I have a submit button and a calcen button. While Clicking the submit button it is fetching large data from database and loading into a gridview. So it takes arround 20 sec of time to do that and also update progress is there for handling that with animation.
I want to implement the calcel button in such a way that, suppose user clicked the submit button and after 5 sec he pressed the calcel button. So immediately it will end the request which occoured by the submit button click event. Is that possible and if yes then how to do that? Any idea?
