SENDING EMAIL from Create user Wizard Taking far to long?

hi,
I  have  a create user wizard for new members to register.
When the Created user event fires I insert the form data to my database and then send 
the new User a WELCOME  email. Problem is it takes almost 2 hours to arrrive but
If I use the method to add another email address that arrives instantly.; see code below
