Malformed Date display

I have a asp.net (vb.net) web project I am developing and when trying to display a date the value it looks like 00/01/0001, but if I add no formatting it displays 12:00:00 AM.  The value coming back from SQL is 7/1/2007.  I can't seem to get it formatted the way I need it to be.  I have created a class file and am attaching the code and hopefully someone can offer some suggestions.
