For my website I want to do something similar to YouTube when any visitors can browse and see the content, but if you want to upload/rate/comment then you need to log in.
What would be the best approach to doing that ? I would like to avoid Session variables and use cookies instead so that it is easy in javascript to show a message when someone who is not logged in tries to comment/rate. Also is it a good thing to change the UI in the code-behind according to the value of the cookie ? For instance, if the user is logged in, he will see the myAccount link at the top-right hand corner of the masterpage, otherwise he will see a form to log in.
What do you think of my approach ?
