Need some help creating an efficient routine or function

My brain has stopped working and I just need another pair of eyes to look at this
I have a grid which will load a ComboBox, i'll use it to Edit an existing account but also create a new one, som sometime the e.item.dataitem will be Null.
All I want to do is make an efficient Routine or Function to check if Null or Nothing, if Eval does find content, I should then make that the currently Seletced Text for whatever the current ComboBox, if its Null or Nothing, Set some Text to prompt the user.  The below code work when its null, nut not Nothing, or maybe the reverse, anyways, it only works in one instance.
It sounds simple to my brain right now but I need someone else to look at this becuase I'm too tired to think.
