I am preparing to start development on a corporate Intranet application based on roles.  The plan is to use Windows authentication with custom roles via the SQLRoleProvider mechanism however based on the limited research it sounds like I'll need to implement a custom sql roles provider.

The app will require additional role-related tables in the database to track additional app infomation such users who are RoleAdmins of specific roles as well as user data such as first/last name, email, etc.

From what I've read it seems the correct course of action is to implement a custom SQLRoleProvider via the source provided by Microsoft?  Is the SQLRoleProvider source available in vb.net? I guess the other option would be to use the SQLRoleProvider as-is and develop a helper role class around the custom tables but that seems "cludgy" to me.

Assuming my thought process sounds logical ...
