Alert Notification functionality like Outlook's in ASP.NET

Hi,

I would like to implement alert notification functionality like Outlook's using ASP.NET.
One way is to make a app & have it downloaded by the users, but I dont want to make an app, instead can we do in the web app itself.

Do anyone having any idea/sample to address my needs?

Thanks.
