Hello,
I am new to 2010 (and C#, I'm a VB leftover....). I had this same problem in 2005 though. I know ASP has a was of handling users for logins/perms.
I prefer to use all my info from a SQL DB and determine specific page/site perms from a field in a SQL record rather than use the 'asp authentication'.
My previous code went something like this:
---web.config:
<authentication mode="Forms"> <forms loginUrl="Default.aspx" timeout="50000000" protection="All" name=".ASPXAUTH" path="/" requireSSL="false" slidingExpiration="true" defaultUrl="default.aspx" cookieless="UseDeviceProfile" enableCrossAppRedirects="false"/> </authentication>

---and in Default.aspx.vb after checking the DB:
FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie(sUserN ...

Go to the complete details ...
