A tricky problem:
I want to use a LinkButton on a page. When the user clicks that button, then the click event in the code behind is doing something.
The LinkButton is in an AJAX update panel, the link button click event tells an update panel to do something.
Problem: The LinkButton always does a postback which causes a complete page refresh. I do not want this.
How can this page refresh be avoided while preserving what the click event is doing? I'd be very grateful for a solution.

I am aware of the button control, it has exactly the functionality I require. However, it has other problems which make it unsuitable.
A Hyperlink control cannot be used, because it does not have a click event associated with it.
Javascript which has something like "return false" in it also appears to be unsuitable a) because the user may not have scripting enab ...
