In our n-tier application (using .NET, WCF, with a WPF ?rich client?), the business logic sits on the server and works great. (We are not using the Enterprise Library or the Entity Framework.) We are being asked to add support for disconnected users (laptops and tablet PCs with Vista), so we would like a subset of the functionality to be available offline. In looking at the Local Cache and Sync functionality in VS.2008, it still appears more ?client-server? 2-tier and less n-tier out of the box (I know we can code around that.) For us to support some level of functionality in a disconnected scenario, the business logic would have to be made available locally obviously. We would like to avoid distributing two setups if possible, because even though our desktop users who are always connected, it would be nice to support them disconnected as well if the server ever goes down.
