I've the following situation:
A long running process that must be executed from a web page, with a button click. I placed the button in a UpdatePanel, so when the button is clicked a asynchronous call to the server is taking place.
During the process I write several status messages to a log file. With a AJAX Enabled WCF service I expose the last lines of the log file. On the webpage with the button, I reference the service inside the scriptmanager and place a javascript timer that calls that calls the service and displays the result on a div element.
This works all fine, BUT when the long process is running, the status from the log files is NOT updated. The calls for updating are waiting for the process to finish. For me this is very strange behaviour because the service is indepent of the page and should handle the status update calls indepent of the running process.
