I want to write a barcode scanner system.

- the scanned data from the scanner is sent to a PC/workstation...can I with VB.NET receive that data and pass it to an online app/server to verify the validity realtime?
- any other things I should take into account?
Basically I want to avoid installing client software, but im not sure if thats possible with currently availabl ...
