I've been going round and round for weeks and have totally confused myself.
I have a situation where I need to have a more extended userdata than is provided in the standard sqlMembership provider, in that I need access on every single page (and db back end) to UserName, GroupId, VendorId, RoleId and a couple of other bits of information.
So I've looked at extending the Membership User (and a custom membership provider), which appear to work however it also appears to require a lookup to the database each and every page.
I also need some extended profile data (for contact information, addressess, phone numbers etc). and the profile provider (with the table solution appears to be great for this).
For business reasons, I need a user to be a member of a single role (never more than 1 and always 1), so the role provider seems overkill, especially as I need this information in relation to the user for db proc ...
